International Box Day!

Thanks to Zoolatry for the graphic.

Welcome to the Third International Box Day, June 30!  It's to celebrate boxes in all shapes and sizes and how great they are to sit in!  What cat does not like a box?

Georgie

It's me Georgie narrating today.  I like to sit in the box covers on the shelves in the cat house with a snugly blanket.  In the winter it is cozy up here.  I think it is Norm in the box below, Playing hard to get - he is like that you know.

Norm???

And Minnie here couldn't wait for Mom to empty the cat food box before she got inside it.
  She is soo impatient.

Minnie

Woody here thinks he is invisible and hides inside a box inside a box - like we can't see him!

Woody

Even Yoko got in the act today - she is a big box fan from way back.  She is 18 so she has been thru a lot of moves with Mom and Pop.  When the moving  boxes come out, Yoko couldn't be happier!  She hides in the best boxes until they have to use them.

Yoko

The beans always leave a box or two out in the cat house for us to play with.  Al loves them too and stakes out his own box.  He is very possessive of his boxes.

Al

Hope you have enjoyed seeing some of us in our boxes. Happy Box Day ya'll!  We can't wait to see all of your box pics.

Tagged on Tuesday

It is me, Norm today.  We got tagged by Marg's Pets (thanks guys!) and Mom thought I should answer your questions since I don't get much blog time.

Do you think you're hot??
I guess I am if you like the strong silent type.  I prefer to be alone unless I am with my best buddy Snowball.

Upload a picture of wallpaper you are using at the moment.

Mom thought we would like this cuz we would think it was a real aquarium and real fish...NOT!

When was the last time you ate chicken meat?

It has been a while..Mom gives us tuna and salmon but not chicken.  She doesn't eat meat but eats fish once in a while.  We get chicken in our Wellness canned cat food.  Does that count?

The song you've listened to most recently??
Mom sings to us, sort of nonsense tunes with silly words so unfortunately that is that last song in my head...:sigh:

What were you thinking when you were doing this??
Why did Mom pick me to do this?  I prefer to be in the background and just watch all the goings on.

Do you have any nicknames?

Oh dear..Mom has a few for me and I don't like them...Normy,  Norman, Norm Norm..see what I mean?

Thank You!

Me with a Thank You card for you.

Chica here and I want to give you all a great big THANK YOU for helping to make my 20th birthday party extra special.  I am pooped and resting up after the late night partying!  It was worth it tho.

We have some winners to announce!  You guys did great in the guessing games.  Here are the answers and the winners:

Mom found me in Florida outside a shopping mall.  The gang from  Marg's Pets was the first to guess right  and they win a nip cigar.  We will send that off to you guys this weekend.

The hidden mousie was in the photo of me on my back showing my belly.  Chloe and Cecil got that right first and win a couple of sheepskin mice to play with.

The answer to what kind of coat do I have is - brindle.  Artemesia's gang won the Play and Squeak ball.

The treat jar stumped all of you - the number of treats in the jar was 163.  No one got that right but the cats from Katnip Lounge guessed 152 - just 11 off the right number.  They were the closest and win bags of Temptations.

And finally, Mom chose a commenter using random.org to let them choose who she will donate $20. to in honor of me.  That winner is 3 Kats and a Kwilter.  We contacted them and they would like to make this donation to Chrystal's cats of Daily Does of Dogs.  We can't think of a more deserving group - thanks guys to doing that!

Thank you all again for playing and joining in the festivities!!!  I am so lucky to have all of you as friends and hope to be around for many more birthdays!

Happy 20th Brithday Dear Chica!

Wow, I am 20!  That is pretty amazing and my little sister Yoko turned 18 earlier this year!  Mom is having a special party for me, with prizes to win and lots of goodies to eat.  Our friend Judi of Sammy, Andy and Shelly  made this special badge to celebrate my birthday.  Thank you so much. (Mom realized that last year we celebrated my birthday on the 24th! We don't know the real date so it doesn't matter I guess.)

Me getting ready for the party!

I had a little set back a few weeks back with my Chronic Renal Failure but am getting subcutaneous fluids every ten days and am doing much better.  I don't like it tho and Mom takes me to the vet to let her do it.  I yell and squirm and make a big fuss - after all I am a tortie!  I am hoping I will be around for a long time to come.

Me at about 5 months.

I am going to share some inside scoops about yours truly....I am Mom's first cat and her first and only tortie. We don't have any kitten pictures of me cuz she found me when I was about six months old outside a shopping mall whapping the glass with my paws trying to get inside.  If you can guess what state we lived in then, there is a nip cigar in it for the first one to guess correctly!

I love people and will come out from wherever I am to see who is visiting.  I go right up to them to check them out.  Another thing I love is Christmas.  I love to play in the wrapping paper and hide my toys to try and find them under the paper.

Mom thinks this is my first Christmas.

Me in my first year playing with a nip toy.

I love to play. My favorite toys have always been boxes, bitty balls, nip toys and any kind of mice. I can catch bitty balls when Mom tosses them in the air. There is a hidden mouse toy in one of my pics today - the first one to find it will win a set of sheep skin nip mouse toys.

Sheep skin nip mouse prize.

Being pensive in my early years.

When I first came to live with Mom and Pop I did not like to be petted, picked up or sit in a lap.  If they tried to pet me, I would run away into another room.  I just preferred to sit near them in the same room.  As I got older I warmed up to them and now I love all the attention I get and sit on Mom's lap whenever I can.

I think I was a pretty young girl then.

I am what they call a black tortie cuz I have reds (or orange) and blacks, but no white in the traditional tortie coloring.  What is my coat pattern called?  You win a Play and Squeak toy if you guess right first!

I love showing my belly!

As much as I love people, I really don't care for other cats.  I tormented my little sister Yoko when we were young.  Here is a rare moment when I was grooming her.  In my later years I am getting a bit more accepting of other cats - good thing cuz we got lots!

Me grooming Yoko.

One more chance to win and then on to the party!  This jar is filled with my favorite Temptations treats.  If you are the first one to guess how many treats are in this jar, you win 3 bags of Natural Temptations treats in different flavors. (For the math whizzes out there the jar is 3" by 2 1/2" and 2 3/4" high.)

And now for the party...we have cake, shrimp, ham, tuna and lots of fun toys and games to play!  Have fun and stay as long as you want.  Mom will choose one of our commenters as the winner using random.org and she will donate $20.  to a shelter or rescue group of the winner's choice in honor of me and my 20th birthday!  We will announce the winners this weekend.  Thank you so much for coming and making this a very special day for me.

Tummy Tuesday with Joey

Joey here - Mom snuck up on me and took this picture of me while I was snoozing in a sun puddle.  Really, Mom,  I have no privacy!

I don't remember who was napping next to me - there seems to be another foot in the photo!

I do have to say I have a very smushy tummy - just right for loving!  Before I go I want to invite all of you to a huge celebration we are having her eon Thursday June 23 in honor of Chica's 20th birthday.  There will be games, food and lots of party favors so mark the date on your calendar!

Formerly Feral with FIV

Hi ya'll, Ivy here today to talk to you about me and FIV.  I have this and I am healthy at age 13.  I spent most of my life outside as a feral until Mom rescued me and brought me inside six years ago.  People are afraid to adopt FIV cats but they shouldn't be.  I have lived indoors with 9 other cats and no one has gotten sick from me.  Here is the scoop on FIV:

FIV Facts

1. The Feline Immuno-deficiency Virus is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years.

2. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or other non-felines.

3. FIV cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all.

4. FIV is not easily passed between cats. It cannot be spread casually - like in litter boxes, water and food bowls, or when snuggling and playing. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens.

5. The virus can be spread through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely rare, except in free-roaming, unneutered tomcats.)

6. A neutered cat, in a home, is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced.

7. Many vets are not educated about FIV since the virus was only discovered 15 years ago.

8. FIV-positive cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them indoors and free from stress, feed them a high-quality diet, keep and treat any secondary problems as soon as they arise.

Despite what many people think, cats with this condition can live perfectly long, happy, healthy lives.
(From Best Friends Animal Society website)

Now that you have the scoop on FIV, let me give you the scoop on me!  My favorite position to sleep in is with my head hanging off the edge. Strange huh?

My left whiskers are all curled like I got them singed in a fire.  Mom does not know how this happened. - it was before she took me in.  I also have a BB pellet embedded in my left paw - again, don't know how that happened.

I love sleeping with Joey - he is my best pal.

My tongue is always out - I don't even notice it.

I love sleeping on the heater in the winter and hang my head off it. Mom worries I will fall off but I don't.

I love to watch TV especially golf which Pop likes.  I watch the little white ball fly through the air!  So cool.

The reason for this post is to explain how FIV cats can live with other cats and not spread the virus. Chrystal has a private shelter with a lovely calico named Daphne who needs a home of her own. Because she is bringing so many new rescued pets into the shelter that are sick, she needs to protect Daphne from getting sick herself with her depressed immune system from FIV. Her  picture is on the sidebar.  Just click it for her story - please help her find a home like I have. I think life is great and I am so glad Mom took me in.

On another note - Chrystal's own cat Little Bit or Bitsy as she was called went to the Bridge last week. To honor her,  Mom posted a memorial for her on Critters.com.  It will be up for 2 weeks and there is a guest book for condolences. Go to the site, click Search, put in Little Bit's name and she is the first Little Bit listed with the date of June 11, 2011.

We joined Camera Critters this weekend - please do stop by for more animal posts.

White Wordless Wednesday with Two Spot

For more wordless..go here.

Tortie Tuesday with Chica

It is me today on Tortie Tuesday.  Mom has been real busy with all kinds of social stuff - work parties, dinner with friends.  We also got a new back door - one with lots of glass for us to see the woods behind us.  We got locked up all day in two rooms while the construction guy and Pop put it in. That was not fun!  I have been in charge of snoopervising all the cats for Mom.  I keep watch on things from my window seat.

I know I am very spoiled.  Being my advanced age, Mom feeds me every few hours and brings the plate to me whereever I am in the house.  I appreciate that but I do go find the food and water bowl on my own too.  I am still pretty agile and active.  I am going to the vet weekly for sub c fluids but I like our vet so I don't mind going in the PTU.  In fact, Mom leaves it out so I can go in it anytime I want.  It is a great place to snuggle up and get away from all the other cats.

I hope you enjoyed your visit with me.  I will be celebrating my 20th birthday next week on the 23rd so do mark the date on your calendar.  Big party, contests, give-aways and more.  After all, how many of us get to be 20!  P.S. Mom recently found a 27 year old cat that has his own Twitter account.  I guess I could be around for a few more years huh?

Mom here - I have been having trouble leaving comments on many blogs and others have had the same problem.  Many of you know Blogger shut our blog down not too long ago for 2 weeks checking it for spam.  Since then we are trying to be ever more vigilant in keeping spam out so we have left up our word verification.  We have tried changing our comments to pop up but some folks still can't comment so it is back to the defrualt setting.  If any of you cannot comment, please let me knwo via email or on our Facebook page  Cats of Wildcat Woods.  We will keep trying to find a way for all to comment.

Garden Thursday with Tabitha

Tabitha here for Garden Duty...guess who was out there visiting the feeder?  Mr. Squirrel that's who!

::3 paw taps::

Now it is time for the tour...we got lots of new things --more roses, lilies, hydrangeas and our veggies are getting big enough to eat.

Hydrangeas

Lilies

Our potatoes.

Tomatoes

Lettuces

Kale and chives
The beans put up new screens on the kitty porch - Mr Bear made a mess of them last year with his paws - mud and holes and everything.  Luckily we have hog wire under the screens to keep him out and us in. This year we booby-trapped the side he usually comes on with all sorts of metal ladders, dollies and pipes, hoping he will leave us alone!

Bear booby-trap.
What is new in your garden?  Any veggies coming up yet?  For more garden post be sure to visit Jonsie for his Society of Feline Gardeners.
