Photo Hunt - Mostly Black

This week's Photo Hunt - Mostly Black was easy for us - we have lots of all black cats bu some of us are almost black.  This is Woody here.  He is a black and grey tabby.  His back is solid black with grey under. He is very good at camouflage - he can be sitting very still in the open and Mom won't even see him cuz he seems to blend in with all the surroundings.  (We think he can make himself invisible!)

Now Chica here is a black tortoiseshell - mostly black with lots of orange and tan in her coat. She is napping so we won't bother her after all at 19 she deserves to do what she pleases.

And finally Joey is another tabby with lots of black on his back but with tan and grey.  We think they call that a ticked tabby but he is anything but...just a very laid back loverboy.

Please help us find a home for Avon - her info and photo are on the sidebar.  She still has not been adopted from a local shelter.  All her kittens found homes but not her.

Also Mom is having a birthday this week on March 3 and will be doing a commentathon to raise money for Marg of Marg's Pets so do come back by and join in.  For each comment she will donate 55cents to help our her vet bills. (Cuz that is how old she is) Recently Marg's Lucky has not been feeling well and is on meds.

Have a great weekend!

Tortie Tuesday - We Gots Mail

Chica here - Mom said I have been feeling extra frisky these past few weeks - waking her up in the morning by tapping on her or when that doesn't work, batting the blinds with my paws.  Here I am with my nip mouse!  I like playing with this toy. Mmmm mmmm good!

Now it is time to freshen up after a wild game of nip mouse......

OK, time to get down to business...we got mail!  We won the first giveaway that Penelope was hosting on her blog Cat From Hell.  We got a great Happy New Year a print of a handmade painting and a fun meezer magnet along with a lovely card.  Since this is the Year of the Cat in some places, this will go up in a place of honor!

Hope you are all doing well - don't forget to help us find a home for Avon.  Her info is in the sidebar - pass it on, post it or tweet it - whatever it takes!

For those of you who want to help the animals of Christchurch New Zealand - Henry has a Chip-In on his blog for the local SPCA!  Even a dollar helps.

Goodbye Sweet Annie

There is no death. Only a change of worlds.

- Chief Seattle

Annie of Fuzzy Tales has gone to the Bridge.  She was a crabby cantankerous floofy ladycat who won our hearts and we will miss her dearly.  Fly free to the other side sweet Annie.

Us Revealed!

The lovely Miss Kitty from A Cat's Golden Years has passed this award on to us. If you have not visited her very classy blog, please do.

With this award we are supposed to reveal seven things about us cats....so here goes.

1. Ivy makes all sorts of noises - chirps, gurgles and does not meow like most cats.  Her meow sounds just like a ducky quacking! Someday we will tape her doing this!

2. Woody drinks from the water bowl by standing with his two front feet in it, no matter how deep the water is and licking the water off his paws.  Mom has to put an old cake pan under the bowl to catch the water. When he leaves, there is a trail of water prints through the house!

3.Snowball's closest brothers, Norm and Sam follow his every move.  When Snowball gets up to go eat from the food bowl, they all go with him and it is an orgy of eating, rubbing against each other and purring.  Pop gets in on the act and pets everybody - sometimes this is the only time you can get your hands on them. They are the most wild of the cats.

4. Tabitha is a lovely tabby and the paws of both back and front feet are totally black on the under side. She looks like she has very elegant gloves on!

5. If Al our deaf cat, doesn't like the flavor of his wet food or is done and there is still some left on the plate, he will try to bury it by scratching around the plate with his paws, covering it with the towel or blanket under it. Mom gets mad cuz then there is cat food on the towel and lint in the food.

6. When Darby uses the litter box, she will spend what seems like forever scratching, scratching, scratching and rearranging the litter to cover her dooties until Pop yells at her to stop!  It drive him nuts, especially at night when he is asleep.

7. If Mom is watching TV or resting, or reading, Yoko will lay on her, stretched out  from chest to legs with one paw next to her neck and her face right under her chin, purring and drooling all over.  Mom calls this her "fur tie" position.

Hope you enjoyed our revealing tidbits. We are supposed to give this award to seven other bloggers. Since most of you already have this, we would like to pass this on to three new bloggers - so we can learn more about them.  They are
Four Paws and Some String,
The Krafte Kat Shack about crafting and cats
and Us 4 Cats

Pleas do stop by and say hi!

Mancat Monday - The Whitesters

Here are the rest of our white mancats...I am Norm here in the first pic.  I am a very quiet calm sorta guy.  I don't make waves, just go along with everyone.  I am Snowball's right hand cat.  Georgie is my sister and we do look a lot alike - Mom has a hard time telling us apart unless she pets us.  I am still a little shy and will be startled but Georgie loves Mom and will just start purring and get into the petting.

Next up is Only - Two Spot's brother and litter mate.  He had... you guessed it...one spot on his head that faded as he got older.  He had a serious bout with UTI this past year and had to go to the vet but now that he is on special food, he is doing great.  Mom has us mancats all on this food, just in case.  We get a little bit spread on our regular wet food.  The vet said we only needed to eat a little - it doesn't have to be the whole amount each meal. It seems to be working!

Finally, last but not least, is our main mancat Snowball.  He is a portly guy but put on all his weight after he got fixed even tho none of us other mancats did.  He doesn't seem to eat more either but Mom doesn't know how to get his weight down since we all eat together.  Snowball calls the shots, rules the roost and keeps everything going smoothly for the group.  His only problem is Al who doesn't seem to know that Snowball is HEAD CAT and not him!  They have their fights and wrestling matches but Snowball most always gets the upper hand.  If Al does, it doesn't last long and Snowball is back at the helm.

Hope you have enjoyed meeting us whisters.  And before you go, please check out Avon's story in a previous post here - Mom wants to try super hard to find a home for this little mother cat.  All her kittens were adopted but not her. Mom doesn't know how to post her picture with the link attached in a post - just on the side bar. (If anyone knows how, please tell her) Take her picture, link or whatever you need to pass along!

Formerly Feral and Forever Friday

Hey everybody - Ivy here today to focus on formerly feral and forever homes.  Mom thinks I am about 12 years old.  Even tho I am a mushball lap cat, I have only been indoors for 5 of those years.  Ferals can be tamed and I am proof! I wouldn't let nobody near me when I lived outdoors! Boy have I changed with lots of love.

Did you know us cats are all descended from tabbies?  Experts think that black cats were the first color variety to arise from the ancestral tabby genes.  Since we are all really tabbies, sometimes under our apparent color, the tabby markings show up as ghost markings in kittens ands some adult black cats.

Not all black is the same  - some black cats with age and sun turn to a rust color like me!  And black is not always called black.  Oriental cats are called ebony or in color points, seal.  OK - enough info - let me get back to my nap in the sun and I will turn you over to Tux!

Last week we mentioned that one of our local shelters was featuring black cats for the month of February as part of their Black Tie Affair. Black cats get a bad rep and they don't deserve it! Meet Tux here from Animal Compassion Network in Asheville, NC.

According to the Black Tie Affair promotion Tux qualifies for a collarship where a local business assists with the adoption fee.  Tux is a black and white gentleman from a family of 7 cats. He is about 3 years old. His person lost her home, so Tux is out scouting for a new one. He has been around cats and dogs, and is quite friendly. Young enough to have some play, but old enough to not be a silly kitten, Tux will make a great family pet, and qualifies for the Black Cat Blitz adoption gift!  Call 828 274-3647 or visit Animal Compassion Network online.

(Mom got all the cat info from a book called Cat Biz by Amanda O'Neill)
